A family’s journey of faith, courage and compassion.
Introducing the Gnaniahs
Jawahar and Ranjini Gnaniah married in 1975 and started a church planting ministry in Madurai, India. They were blessed with two sons, Onesi and Danny. After years of ministry, the family went to the U.S. to study at Fuller Theological Seminary.
Danny’s Early Diagnosis
Danny’s diagnosis with muscular dystrophy was confirmed in the United States when he was six. In 1988 it was confirmed that he had Duchenne MD. His disability quickly began to manifest, and at eight he began to use a wheelchair. Nevertheless, Danny graduated from high school in 2000.
Growing Up Years
Danny accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord in 1993 while recovering from leg surgery. He was known for his peaceful spirit, gentleness, cheerfulness, patience, quick wit and strong sense of humor.
“Danny never complained of his pains and struggles but had an amazingly peaceful spirit, gentle and always cheerful with enduring patience despite being in utter weakness.”
Danny & Friends
Seeing the difficult circumstances of people with Muscular Dystrophy in India moved the family to express Christ’s love in tangible ways. Danny and Friends was started in September 1992, with Danny serving as its first honorary President.
Sudden Empty Nest
Shortly after graduation, on October 26, 2000, Danny passed away. His story continues to inspire a ministry of friendship, compassion and hope.
“To us, Danny is a hero, for from a position of weakness he displayed courage, peace, and character.”
